Bosankai

Continuing the legacy of our founder, Dr. Toyohiko Takami, we hold annual Memorial Day services at Mt. Olivet and Cypress Hills Cemeteries to honor our ancestors and early Japanese pioneers. Relatives of these pioneers and members of the religious leadership and the community attend the services each year.

JAA honors our history and the earliest members of our community at this annual event. Our Bosankai, which literally means “grave attendance ceremony,” is held in May during Memorial Day Weekend at the Japanese Cemetery at Mount Olivet Cemetery and Cypress Hills Cemetery. Our founder, Dr. Toyohiko Takami, purchased the Japanese Cemetery at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in 1912 for the Japanese Mutual Aid Society. The city’s religious and community leaders attend each year.
